Dutch postal market liberalisation

On Friday 20 February, the Cabinet announced its intention to fully open up the Dutch postal market. The Postal Act that forms the basis of liberalisation still has to be approved by the Upper House of Dutch Parliament, which is scheduled for mid-March. Once the matter has been discussed, it will be announced if and when the final step will be made in the opening of the postal market.

Rates for consumers will not change when the market is liberalised. Our postmen will continue to deliver mail six days a week to all addresses in the Netherlands.

A number of changes will apply for our business customers. The most important change is that VAT will be charged on certain products that are now VAT-exempt, including bulk mail letters, Postage Paid Mixed (0-50 grams) and your PO Box and Business Reply subscriptions.

We will of course inform you of how the changes will affect you as soon as the liberalisation date is confirmed.
